Fall Sports Teams in Prime Condition for Postseason
Did you know nearly 40% of the Franklin & Marshall student body competes in varsity sports? The College boasts , along with five intramural sports and numerous club athletics. In its 33rd year, the Centennial Conference (CC) is one of the nation's elite small college conferences.

Men’s Cross Country
The Diplomats started their season with a home meet at Baker Campus, securing second place overall. A young squad with no seniors, F&M will head into the conference championship with momentum on its side as six runners turned in top times Oct. 18 at the Aubrey Shenk Invitational hosted by Gettysburg College. .
Women’s Cross Country
In a historic season, the Diplomats won their season opener at Baker Campus and later defeated Dickinson at The Little Three Meet for the first time since 1991. The team placed fourth at Lehigh University’s prestigious Paul Short Run Oct. 3 among a field of Division I, II and III programs. Annalise Kauffman ’26 (Landisville, Pa.), Katie Scott ’27 (Earleville, Md.) and Tara Silverman ’28 (New York City) are the team’s pacesetters, each coming off the best race of their careers heading into the conference championship. .
Field Hockey
A traditional regional and national power, F&M field hockey has been ranked as high as No. 14 in the country and currently owns an 11-3 (4-2 Centennial) record heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. The Diplomats could officially clinch their spot in the postseason during their final two home games this week. Caitlyn Hoover ’27 (Blue Bell, Pa.) ranks among the top 10 players in all of Division III with 19 goals and recently passed current assistant coach Erin McCormick ’20 for the most hat tricks in school history. The Diplomats celebrated another milestone this fall when head coach Kaitlyn Eager won her 100th career game at F&M, a 3-2 win on the road against No. 9 Messiah University. .
Football
Currently 5-1 (3-0 Centennial), the Diplomats share first place in the CC standings under first-year head coach Michael Phelan. F&M secured a 28-27 home win against Muhlenberg Oct. 11 and a 23-20 victory at Dickinson Oct. 18, both on last-second plays. F&M won the Conestoga Wagon Trophy in the annual battle against rival Dickinson, as Michael Fleming ’27 (Glen Head, N.Y.) kicked the game-winning field goal with time expiring. Quarterback Ty Tremba ’26 (Slatington, Pa.) and wide receiver Gary Lewis ’26 (Summit, N.J.) continue to rank among the best players in program history. The Diplomats’ success has earned the team votes in the national polls for the first time since 2019. .
Men’s Soccer
With a CC-record 11 consecutive appearances in the NCAA Tournament, F&M challenged itself with one of the toughest schedules in all of Division III. With several young stars, the Diplomats are in playoff contention heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. They could make a run at qualifying for the conference tournament, which continues with the team’s final home game of the regular season versus Haverford Oct. 22. .
Women’s Soccer
F&M made its first two appearances in the NCAA Tournament during the 2021 and 2023 seasons, and the Diplomats are poised for a return to the national stage with a record of 7-3-4 (3-2-2 CC). The team displays a diversity of skills among all players, highlighted by 12 different scholar-athletes notching a goal or assist this season. Ellison Errington ’28 (Madison, N.J.) and Emerson McDonald ’29 (Haddonfield, N.J.) lead the infusion of young talent with six goals apiece. The Diplomats host their final two home games of the regular season this week. .
Volleyball
Fresh off a 2024 NCAA Tournament appearance, the Diplomats have once again made a name for themselves on the national scene with a 15-4 record (3-1 Centennial). F&M ranks fourth in the CC and has received votes in national polls. Coco Shultz ’26 (Glenmoore, Pa.) recently became the 21st player in program history to reach 1,000 points in her career. The Diplomats started the year with seven consecutive match wins and have only been defeated by nationally ranked teams. They’ll pursue a second straight NCAA Tournament appearance for the first time since the 1999 and 2000 seasons, when head coach Mary Kate Salko ’01 was a record-setting player on a team that advanced to the Sweet 16. .
Other fall notables
Although the majority of their competition schedules are played during the spring semester, F&M golf, rowing and tennis have all experienced early success.

In , Sarah Wang ’28 (Beijing, China) is the reigning CC Rookie of the Year. She has continued that success as the top-placing individual in three of the team’s five fall tournaments, headlined by a team championship at the Franklin & Marshall Fall Invitational.
witnessed Luke Brodsky ’26 (Westport, Conn.) make a run to the Round of 16 at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South Regional Championships. In , Sophia Rhazali ’27 (Stamford, Conn.) and Natalie Untermeyer ’28 (Dallas) won matches in the championship singles draw of the women’s regional championship.
